Flint Sailor
Reported Lost,
Is Known Dead
Herbert Russell Sewell, 20,
third class aviation machinist's
mate in the U. S. Naval Reserve,
reported missing in action last
month is known to have lost his
life, a War Department telegram
informed his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Harry Sewell, Royal Oak,
who formerly lived at 1533 Ari-
zona Ave.
That his body is interred in
Brazil was disclosed to the par-
ents in a later message. A stu-
dent of Lewis, Lowell and Cen-
tral High School, Sewell enlisted
in September, 1942, after which
his parents moved from Flint.
On Aug. 5, 1943, his parents
received a letter from their son
and a telegram that he was list-
ed as missing in action. He had
visited in Flint and Clio in July
of this year.
Surviving are his parents, two
sisters, Mrs. Eva Carroll, Clio;
Jennie at home; three brothers:
Alton Richard Sewell, first class
seaman, serving in the Solomon
Islands; Lawrence Sewell, 911
Moore St., and Robert at home.
His parents were Harry J. Sewell and Viola Frances (Delmarter) Sewell. Herbert was born abt 1923. I need to do more research on him. I need to find out where he was born and the actual date. Would also like to know if his body was ever returned to the United States. And if so where he is buried.
